  • Outback Region Sport, Recreation & Open Space Strategy

    The OCA received funding from the Office of Sports and Recreation in 2016 to obtain a plan of sports and recreation needs in the Outback, while reviewing the last plan which was completed in 2005.

    As a result, the OCA, along with successful tenderer Neil Tredwell Management, will be travelling throughout the region and would like to invite community members to contribute to the next 5-year plan. This plan will inform the OCA Board on recreational needs in the Outback, while also ensuring that the OCA has shovel-ready projects for future grant applications.

  • OCA Board regional trip - Northern Flinders

    The Outback Communities Authority (OCA) and Board will be travelling to the Northern Flinders Ranges region next Tuesday, 14 March - Thursday, 16 March as part of a regional trip and are keen to hear how they can make a positive difference to life in the Outback.

    The OCA is absolutely committed to ensuring that community members have a say, and is making every effort to deliver the infrastructure and services that the Outback community needs most.

  • OCA celebrates Australia Day honours recipients

    The Outback Communities Authority would like to congratulate Outback community members, Jan Ferguson and Sheryl Lewis, recipients in the Australia Day 2017 honours list.

    Jan, an OCA Board Member who resides part-time in Beltana, received a Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to the Indigenous communities of the Northern Territory. Sheryl, of Yunta, was awarded an Ambulance Service Medal for her volunteer service.

    Regional Development Australia Far North (RDAFN), in conjunction with the Outback Communities Authority (OCA) and South Australian Arid Lands Natural Resource Management, are pleased to announce the completion of the Far North and Outback SA Climate Change Adaptation Plan.

  • OCA Chair announced as individual finalist in first ever SA Climate Leaders awards

    Chair of the Outback Communities Authority (OCA), Ms Cecilia Woolford, has been announced as an individual finalist in the first ever South Australian Climate Leaders awards.

    An initiative of the State Government’s key advisory body on climate change matters, the Premier’s Climate Change Council, the awards recognise individuals and organisations for their contribution and achievement in three award categories; individual, industry and business, and community and regions.

  • 'From the Outback to the Battlefront' memorial book launched in Blinman

    The Minister for Local Government and Regional Development, the Hon. Geoff Brock MP, launched the Outback Communities Authority’s (OCA) historical record – From the Outback to the Battlefront – in Blinman last week.

    From the Outback to the Battlefront documents the service history of Outback South Australian communities who served Australia in the many theatres of battle around the world during the late 19th through to the 21st Century.

  • Manager of Leigh Creek Contracts and Services appointed

    The Outback Communities Authority (OCA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Robert Stack as the inaugural Manager of Leigh Creek Contracts and Services for the Leigh Creek township.

    The appointment follows the State Government announcement on 6 June 2016 that the OCA will be responsible for the municipal management of Leigh Creek as the township transitions to government management from 1 January 2017.

  • OCA and RDA release Economic Growth and Investment Strategy

    The Outback Communities Authority (OCA) and Regional Development Australia Far North (RDAFN) are pleased to announce and release an Economic Growth and Investment Strategy for the unincorporated areas of outback South Australia.

    The strategy identifies key areas, projects or activities which will have immediate, medium and long-term economic benefits for the outback and informs a targeted, strategy approach to facilitate change towards a prosperous future for the outback.
