Marla
Marla is located at the junction of the Oodnadatta Track and the Stuart Highway, 1082 km north of Adelaide and 480 km south of Alice Springs. Established in the late 1970's the town has approximately 70 residents.
The town is an important access point to the Mintabie opal fields to the west and the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yunkanjatjara (APY) Lands to the west and northwest for which Marla provides an important service centre.
Marla Progress Association meets on a monthly basis. Its main fundraising comes from rent received from a government agency utilising the old school building. It has responsibility for insurance, waste management, maintenance of the community oval, TV services and streetlights.
